“Good” music is in the ear of the beholder. But, are there parameters one could use to judge the real quality of music? Discussion will ensue.
Homework: Write up what you think the parameters are for judging music. Sell your opinion to me with examples. Due next Tuesday, March 25 at 9am, posted to this blog.

What makes music good?...
I think I may have it. What makes music good is its ability to make you feel something. Anything: Happiness, Anger, Love, Lust, Fear, Excitement, Anything. For Example: Fred Frith is good because he is a masterful guitar player. Not in the sense that he does endless guitar solos like David Gilmour or Robert Fripp. It is because he can use a guitar and a few effects to create something of such beauty that you are left speechless, unable to do anything but let the sound of it fill your being, your soul. Afterwards you feel refreshed, cleansed, and happy. That’s good music.
Good music is music that does not bore you. Good music is something dynamic, and I don’t mean speed-metal or punk rock dynamic, I mean something you don’t want to ignore. It’s something you can connect to in a positive way, or even a negative way. That’s what makes music good, is it’s ability to engage to you as a human being.
Yeah What Andrew Said!!!
Good Music I believe consists of the performers loving what they do. The Artist are the ones who put all there feeling and soul into there music so if its sincere it's good music. Music is an art and it is quite difficult to judge art. An example, is James Brown. He has what looks like the most fun in the world while he performs. He puts his all into it. I may not enjoy the music some artist's make but I can respect it if it is sincere. Good Music comes from the heart.
